Eric and Dee Dee's Honeymoon: Helicopter Ride

We woke up and enjoyed coffee on the balcony in our room. The room faced East so we saw the sunrise. Wow.

After a quick yogurt in the hotel room, we drove over to Joe's On The Green-Kiahuna Golf Club In Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii a great little restaurant near the clubhouse of a local golf course. If you go before 8:30am, take advantage of their “early bird: special pricing of under $6 breakfast plates. The wait staff is a little gruff, but the pricing makes it worth it. We both ate breakfast for under $20. Be sure to order the banana macadamia nut pancakes…and be sure to ask for the coconut syrup! Great stuff.

After breakfast, we visited the small town of Koloa…which was one of the first sugar plantation towns. This town is very small, but it’s worth a few hours to look through the shops and soak up the atmosphere. Be careful of the several chickens running around the town…I almost ran over a rooster who was nonchalantly crossing the street.

We ended up running into an eBay co-worker in Koloa. My co-worker, Elmer Sato and his family were sitting outside the Koloa general store as Dee Dee and I walked by. Elmer and I looked at each other..and it registered that we knew each other, but it a took a few seconds to realize we know each other…Too funny!

There is a small general store just around the corner that is very reasonably priced to buy cheap souvenirs….we bought t-shirts for family and friends at 3 for $20…great deal.

We had to be at the Lihue airport by 11:45 for our helicopter tour. We had to be at the Air Kauai helicopter pad by 12:15 to fly by 12:40. Wow! What an experience. If you have the $200, we highly recommend going on the tour. You will see parts o the island that one can’t see on foot (Waimea Canyon). I recommend taking at least one non-drowsy Dramamine to avoid discomfort in flight! The flight is smooth, but with high winds, the helicopter will jump around a bit.

After the tour…we went to lunch at a great plate lunch plate near the Lihue airport, Fish Express . Get the pulled pork plate lunch…it comes with pork, diced and seasoned raw Ahi tuna and rice…all for $6. We ended up taking our plate lunches to Kalapaki beach.
There’s a great shaved ice stand across the street from the beach in a small shopping center…order the Lichi and Coconut flavored ice….great stuff.

We ate dinner at Tidepools in the Hyatt. As far as romance, this place is it! The ambiance and food were FANTASTIC! Be sure to make reservations and request a table by the water. I had a great swordfish that was light and soft…and Dee Dee had a great filet

To end the night, Dee Dee and I walked along the path by the ocean on the Hyatt grounds. We found a wood swing and watched the stars for a bit. The moon was bright that night.
