Eric and Dee Dee's Honeymoon: Off to Kauai!

Flew from SFO to LAX to Lihue, Kauai
Departed SFO at 6:20am! Early! Arrived in Lihue by noon!

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt at Kauai, Poipu Beach (South of the island) . This is a great hotel! We highly recommend staying. The grounds are amazing and well kept. We spent most of our time at the salt water lagoon, which comes equipped with a beach and lounge chairs. The two pools are very nice, but were frequented by kids.

The beach is 100 feet from the lagoon. Unfortunately, the natural beach tends to have high serf and strong currents in Oct-Dec…making swimming and snorkeling not an option. Overall, snorkeling is not an option in Oct – Dec due to high waves and strong currents. We watched surfers which was cool.

We booked a garden view room, but were upgraded by three grade levels. This was definitely due to some phone calls that were made by the General Manager (Mark Bastis) at the Hyatt in Monterey….thanks Mark!) We were in Delux Ocean View room! Wow! What a location!

We had a snack at the pool and tooled around.

Dee Dee and I ate off the resort at Keoki's Paradise ..which is 5 min by car from the resort. The restaurant is very “bamboo Hawaii” and very lively. We both had their specialty drink, the Tai Chi…and had great short ribs and pan seared Ahi. We highly recommend ordering their Hula Pie…which is hawaiian style mud pie.

After dinner, we went to a small market in Poipu which was frequented by locals. Dee Dee and I spent time exploring the market…and purchased Hawaiian yogurt, bagels, fruit. Dee Dee and I highly recommend buying breakfast foods at a local market…to be stored in the small refrigerator in the resort hotel room. Resort breakfasts can be VERY EXPENSIVE and one can eat break fast much more cheaply buy purchasing from the local market.
